This limited-edition, archival inkjet print design comes from a 1947 record cover illustration by Jim Flora.
Kid Ory and His Creole Jazz Band was released on Columbia Records in 1947 on a 78rpm four-disc set. Jazz trombonist Edward "Kid" Ory (1886-1973) was a legendary figure in the development of New Orleans "hot" stylings of the early 20th century. As a bandleader he hired a number of key players who later achieved great prominence, such as Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, and King Oliver.
Produced in 2009 by Flora archivist Barbara Economon, the print was meticulously and painstakingly crafted from a from a mint-condition artist's proof sheet of the Ory cover that is in the Flora collection. Each print is numbered in pencil and authenticated with a publisher's seal on the reverse.
