The album cover art for Evolution, the first of two 1967 albums by The Hollies, is revisited here as a limited edition print in silkscreen and archival inkjet.
The album cover artwork was created by Simon Posthuma of design group The Fool, with the psychedelic cover photo by Karl Ferris who is credited with creating the first truly psychedelic photograph for an album cover. Posthuma has returned to his original designs for the master release, on Parlophone, UK in 1967 to create the stunning print you see here. Subsequent releases, notably the USA and Canadian releases on Epic that same year, dropped the beautiful colourful lettering that frames the band in favour of a less elegant (though perhaps more legible) purple typeface across the top of the image.
As for the album, like its predecessor For Certain Because, Evolution featured all the songs written by members Allan Clarke, Graham Nash, and Tony Hicks. Seen at this scale, and printed in archival quality inks, Posthuma's illustrations pack a real punch.
