Pentangle’s ‘Sweet Child’ 40 years on - 04 July 2008
Last Sunday five very talented musicians stepped on to the stage of London’s Festival Hall to start their first UK tour for 35 years and to reprise a sell out concert they gave on the very same stage 40 years ago.
That band is Pentangle and the talented musicians are Bert Jansch, John Renbourne, Jacqui McShee, Danny Thompson and Terry Cox. They formed an innovative acoustic ‘supergroup’, melding folk, jazz and blues to create a unique and exciting sound that has influenced and inspired to this day.
The recording of that concert all those years ago comprised one disk of a double album called ‘Sweet Child’.
For the cover design of this album they turned to the celebrated British Pop Artist Peter Blake, who a year earlier had created the Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper cover. The resulting artwork is an iconic piece, beloved of all Pentangle afficiados.
Now this artwork has been re-created by (Sir) Peter as a limited edition silkscreen print, using a revolutionary technique that allows glitter inks to be used through the screen. It really is an incredible piece and a must have for devotees of Pentangle and Peter Blake alike.

Robert Crumb's BB King - 09 June 2008
Here in the Hypergallery we feel strongly that Robert Crumb is one of the finest artists of our generation. A bit 'off the wall' yes, but his draftsmanship is superlative and his style unique. Although much of his art is frankly a little weird, and the subject matter quite risqué, there is a whole body of music related work that suits our genre perfectly.
This ranges from beautifully executed portraits of blues, jazz and country musicians to assorted album covers. With the exception of Big Brother and the Holding Company's 1968 album 'Cheap Thrills', the majority of the album covers have been for fairly obscure releases. Nevertheless they are all amazing pieces of artwork and we are eager to get as many as possible on our gallery walls. At the moment that's restricted to a quirky little piece for a Jewish klezmer band called The Klezmorim and an absolutely fabulous portrait of BB KIng, although two more pieces will be on the walls shortly.
Our news on the BB King however, is that we are down to the last few copies and naturally the value has risen. This is a stunning artwork and it's value is enhanced by a countersignature from the great BB King himself.
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - 12 May 2008
In 1974 Genesis released their double concept album ‘The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway’ and design group Hipgnosis, already renowned for their work with Pink Floyd, were commissioned to create the artwork for the cover. This was the last Genesis album with Peter Gabriel as their front man, but the start of Gabriel’s relationship with Hipgnosis who went on to create the memorable covers for his first three solo albums.
Thirty four years later and this thought provoking artwork has been published as a limited edition print, hand-signed by Storm Thorgerson and exclusively available on-line today in the Hypergallery.
One collector who bought this print from us has said “I think it is close to being his most interpretive work, almost haunting and the black and white just adds to that feeling”

Storm Thorgerson Screensavers - 11 April 2008
Hypergallery are offering their visitors two brilliant screensavers conceived by the talented Mr Thorgerson. He came up with these animations as intros to a website for the publishing company Rockoptic, whose prints feature in the gallery.
When Rockoptic no longer had use for them we though they were so unique that it would be criminal to consign them to the archives, so we've re-programmed them as screensavers (with a little plug for ourselves at the beginning).
All you have to do is register your details, hopefully sign up for our mailing list, and then download them for free.
A storm in your computer!
