Peter Gabriel born in 1950 attended Charterhouse public school where he formed a rock band with fellow students. That band was later to become Genesis and enjoyed a cult following with Gabriel as the front man.

In 1975 he decided to go solo and released a number of hit albums and singles. He became entranced by world music and was an early exponent of the genre, culminating in the formation of WOMAD (World Of Music And Dance), which has now become a staple of the Festival season throughpout the world.

Peter's collaboration with Storm Thorgerson of design group Hypgnosis resulted in the covers for his first three albums, known by fans as 'Car', 'Scratch' and 'Melt'.
