Black Sabbath started life in Birmingham, England as the ‘Polka Tulk Blues Band’ back in 1968. Later they changed their name to ‘Earth’, but to avoid confusion with another band of the same name, they became Black Sabbath in honour of a song they had been performing.

The original line-up survives to this day, though there have been many resignations, re-joins and alternate members in the years between.

Ozzy Osbourne has become an institution in his own right, but together with Tony Iommi, Terence "Geezer" Butler and Bill Ward he is still the front man of one of the most influential heavy metal bands of all time.
